Welcome to your Blog -- Calvary Circle of Friends. Some of you are wondering "what is a blog?" Technically, it's a web log of shared information. A blog can be used to share information, thoughts, inspiration and encouragement, devotions, recommendations, answer questions or a myriad of other things - except maybe bake a cake. It could be used as a diary of thoughts. For our purposes, we will use it to help network and connect as women in process of growing into the likeness of Christ and becoming all God has designed us to be. It is a place to learn and grow, be encouraged or challenged in your walk. We will also keep you up to date as to what is happening with the women of Calvary. What classes are being offered? What events are happening? Any new small groups. Recommendations for books to read or websites to visit.
As you regularly log on there will be new posts to read. You can choose to post a comment as a thought or question. Who are the " Calvary Circle of Friends?" While our blog is aimed at the women who attend Calvary Assembly of God in Dover, Delaware, you may be included in our Circle of Friends. We welcome all women to join the journey to knowing and experiencing Christ fully. Let the journey begin...

Does anyone have a favorite womens devotional that they are using? Are there any good Christian concerts (other than at Calvary) coming to the tri-state area soon?

www.christianhappenings.com lists Christian events and concerts in the tri-state area. Also, the church has the Christian Happenings magazine on display near the track racks.

I heard a Presbyterian preacher ont the radio say that speaking in tongues isn't for today. One of his key arguments was that Jesus had the Holy Spirit and he didn't speak in tongues. If he didn't than we don't need to either. What is our response to this as Spirit filled believers.

It will not be my habit to take anonymous posts. You can email me at uniquelyhis@comcast.net if you don’t want others to know your name.
Luke 3:16 says, “…I (John the Baptist) baptize you with water. But one more powerful than I will come… He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.” Jesus is the one who baptizes us in the Holy Spirit. The Baptizer didn’t’ need to have the sign of being baptized in the Holy Spirit; He was one with the Spirit. While Jesus was here it was not the “age” of the Holy Spirit -- John 16:7 “But I tell you the truth; it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away the Counselor (Holy Spirit) will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.” The disciples at the time didn’t speak in tongues either because the baptism in the Holy Spirit had not been initiated. In John 20:22 Jesus said to the disciples, “Receive the Holy Spirit.” This was their regeneration or entering into the New Covenant salvation and the Holy Spirit indwellt them. But in Acts 1:8 says “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses…” Jesus told them to tarry until they received this power for ministry. They had they indwelling but Christ wanted to Baptize them in the Holy Spirit as foretold by John the Baptist. Acts 2 records the day of Pentecost and Jesus first baptism of his followers in the Holy Spirit with the sign of speaking in tongues. Later in Acts 2 Peter stands to explain what is happening and quotes the Prophet Joel and says this was the fulfillment of that promise. Acts 2:17 - …I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy…” Then in Acts 2:39 Peter said “The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off – for all whom the Lord our God will call.” This verse alone makes it plain that the baptism in the Holy Spirit is for all believers – “’for all whom the Lord our God will call.” That is you and me – I’m called to be Christ’s disciple and it’s his privilege to baptize me in the power and anointing of the Holy Spirit for ministry and life.
